The 4 Pines Brewing Company is one of Australia's best-known and most beloved craft beer breweries, whose story began in one of the most beautiful locations in the country: in 2006, a relaxed post-surf conversation between father Steve Mitchell and son Jaron Mitchell on the iconic beachfront promenade of Manly sparked the idea of founding their own brewery – and set in motion what became one of the most meaningful entrepreneurial journeys in Australian brewing history. The name itself tells a poetic story: during the Second World War, four pine trees were removed from the southern end of the Manly promenade and replaced with machine gun emplacements – as a loving tribute to those four felled trees and to the nature-connected soul of Sydney's Northern Beaches, the Mitchells chose the name «4 Pines» for their first brewpub, which opened directly on the waterfront in Manly in 2008.

What began with a single 5-hectolitre brewing plant in the heart of Manly developed within just a few years into one of the most dynamic and award-winning craft beer brands in Australia: in 2011 a larger brewery opened in Brookvale with a 50-hectolitre brewhouse, a bottling line and a bar, followed by a growing network of community-oriented hospitality venues across New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland. At the Sydney Royal Beer & Cider Show 2023, 4 Pines won a total of 22 medals, including the prestigious titles of Champion Packaged Beer for the Japanese Style Lager and Champion Draught Beer as well as Best Overall Beer for the Extra Special Bitter – an impressive testament to the consistent artisanal quality that has distinguished the brewery since its founding.

As a B-Corp certified company and proud member of «1% for the Planet», 4 Pines has written sustainability and social responsibility into the heart of its business philosophy from the very beginning – because the conviction that every beer drunk can trigger a chain of positive changes in the world has never been a marketing phrase for the Mitchells but a lived daily reality. Today, 4 Pines is part of the Asahi Group and with more than ten permanent hospitality venues as well as the experimental home brewing centre «Keller Door» in Manly stands as one of the most vibrant, courageous and socially responsible brewing addresses in northern Australia – proof that a conversation after a surf can make the world a slightly better place.
