Description
The organic beer consists of caramelised organic barley malt and organic hops. The unfiltered yeast turbidity gives it a naturally cloudy colour.
History
The company has been selling its own organic beer since 1999. However, the history of Alpine beer began back in 1991, when the name of today's organic beer was derived from the Alpine Initiative launched in 1989. The Alpine Initiative Committee approached the Rosengarten brewery in 1991 in the hope that it would promote the initiative with a beer. As the brewery had no objections to this project, special labels with the Alpine Initiative logo were soon stuck on the bottle. However, the contents of the bottle consisted of "ordinary" corn gold, as they decided not to brew a special beer as well. The Alpine Initiative Committee itself was responsible for selling the beer. In addition to advertising, there was also money for the Alpine Initiative. For every bottle sold, 10 centimes went into the initiative's coffers. This project brought the brewery many new customers. Many alternative shops became aware of the Rosengarten brewery through the Alpine beer. Just like the initiative committee, the owners of these shops were much more in favour of a small, independent business than the large companies that tend to be disliked in this scene. As a result, the brewery gained many customers in Bern and even in Geneva.
