Description
The organic beer is made from caramelized organic barley malt and organic hops. The unfiltered yeast turbidity gives it a naturally cloudy color.
History
The sale of its own organic beer was launched in 1999. However, the history of the Alpine beer begins already in 1991. The name of today's organic beer actually comes from the Alpine Initiative launched in 1989. In 1991, the Alpine Initiative Committee approached the Rosengarten Brewery, hoping it would promote the initiative with a beer. Since the brewery had no objections to this project, special labels with the Alpine Initiative logo were soon affixed to the bottles. However, the bottle contents consisted of the "ordinary" Maisgold, as they refrained from brewing a special beer. The Alpine Initiative Committee was responsible for distributing the beer itself. Besides the promotion, there was also money for the Alpine Initiative. For each bottle sold, 10 cents flowed into the initiative's fund. This project brought many new customers to the brewery. Through the Alpine beer, many alternative shops became aware of the Rosengarten Brewery. Just like the initiative committee, the owners of these shops found a small, independent business much more appealing than the large companies, which are rather unpopular in this scene. Thus, the brewery gained many buyers in Bern and even in Geneva.
