Gordon's

The story of Gordon's Gin begins in 1769, when the Scotsman Alexander Gordon founded his distillery in Southwark in London and thereby laid the foundation for one of the best-known and best-selling gins in the world. What set Gordon apart from all other gin styles of his time from the very beginning was the bold decision to add no sugar to his gin – an innovation that not only established the unmistakable, clean and juniper-forward character of the spirit but also gave the name to the term «London Dry Gin» that remains universally recognised to this day. The recipe, which has remained unchanged ever since, is regarded as one of the most closely guarded secrets in the spirits world – only around a dozen people worldwide know all the details of the secret botanical composition.

Gordon's rise to a global brand was pursued with impressive consistency: around 1800, Gordon's was taken up by the British Royal Navy and shipped around the world, bringing the brand international recognition far beyond the borders of London. In 1898, Alexander Gordon & Company merged with Tanqueray to form Tanqueray Gordon & Co., and in 1925 Gordon's received the first of a total of four Royal Warrants from the British Royal Family – including from King George V, King George VI, Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Mother Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. In the 1920s, Gordon's demonstrated its pioneering spirit with the introduction of the «Gordon's Shaker» – one of the first pre-mixed cocktails ever produced – laying the foundation for the modern ready-to-drink category.

Today, as part of the global spirits group Diageo, Gordon's is according to its own figures the world's best-selling London Dry Gin and has been the number one gin on the British home market since the late 19th century. The range encompasses alongside the classic London Dry Gin the popular Premium Pink Gin, Sloe Gin, flavoured variants and the alcohol-free Gordon's 0.0% range – all united by the uncompromising juniper emphasis that has earned Gordon's its affectionate nickname as the «ginniest of gins» and that has distinguished the brand as a reliable and unmistakable classic of the gin world for over 250 years.
