Kilkenny Red Ale is a classic Irish red ale which, alongside Guinness, is one of the best-known Irish beers. Originally known as Smithwick's, it was renamed for export in the 1980s as the original name was difficult to pronounce in mainland Europe. The reddish-brown ale was given the name Kilkenny, named after the town from which it originates. Kilkenny is tapped with nitrogen, which gives it a fine-pored, lush head.
