The story of Mr. & Mrs. T begins in 1960 in Los Angeles, when Herb and June Taylor – a married couple with years of experience in the sauce business – set about realising the idea of creating the perfect, consistent and accessible base for one of the most complex and demanding cocktails in the world: the Bloody Mary. According to legend, the Bloody Mary itself had already been invented in 1921 by Fernand «Pete» Petiot at Harry's Bar in Paris, later refined with Tabasco at the St. Regis Hotel in New York and completed with celery in Chicago – yet the challenge for home bartenders and restaurants had always been the same: combining the multitude of ingredients, spices and flavour components in a consistent and balanced manner every single time. Herb and June Taylor solved this problem with a single, brilliantly balanced ready-made mix that needed only the addition of vodka.
The decisive breakthrough for the Mr. & Mrs. T brand came at 30,000 feet, when an American Airlines executive tasted the mix and immediately introduced it on board. From that moment on, Mr. & Mrs. T Bloody Mary Mix became the favourite drink of airline passengers in the early 1960s, and the growing demand in the air quickly led passengers from around the world to start asking for the product in their local grocery stores. The success was so overwhelming that Herb and June Taylor sold their company Taylor Food Products as early as 1965, setting the brand on a journey through various companies before ultimately passing into the ownership of Mott's LLP and thus into the portfolio of Keurig Dr Pepper.
Today Mr. & Mrs. T is the best-selling Bloody Mary mix in the United States and an indispensable bar classic, delivering with its base recipe of 95% ripe tomato juice, real lemon juice, coarse black pepper and sea salt – without anchovies or artificial additives – a balanced, savoury-tart and full-bodied tomato character that enables the cocktail in its most accessible and reliable form. Honoured with the ChefsBest Excellence Award 2020 and available in a growing product family from the classic original version to a fiery Spicy variant with a triple pepper blend of jalapeño, chipotle and cayenne, Mr. & Mrs. T has permanently cemented its place as the undisputed number one among American cocktail mixes.
