Mulled beer
Mulled beer, known in German as Glühbier, is a warm beer-based drink traditionally enjoyed during the winter season. It is prepared by gently heating beer and adding spices and sometimes fruit to create a warming and aromatic beverage. The drink is especially popular during cold weather and at winter or Christmas markets in some European regions.
In terms of flavor, mulled beer combines the malty character of beer with sweet and spicy notes from ingredients such as cinnamon, cloves, star anise, or citrus peel. The warming spices enhance the natural malt flavors while adding a festive and aromatic character. Depending on the recipe, a small amount of sugar or honey may also be added to balance the bitterness of the beer.
Mulled beer is typically served hot and is appreciated for its warming qualities during colder months. It offers an alternative to mulled wine while maintaining the distinctive taste of beer, making it a seasonal specialty enjoyed at winter gatherings and festive events.
