Description
This beer was brewed in England and Scotland in the 19th century for the Indian colonies. It was named after India because India was a British colony at the time. As the beer had to survive the long sea voyage, particularly high demands were placed on its shelf life. The high alcohol and hop content were necessary in order to survive the journey around Africa. The Suez Canal did not exist at that time. Normal beer would have spoilt due to the lack of cold stores. For this reason, IPA was brewed with large quantities of hops. In India, it was then diluted 1:1 with water. Our India Pale Ale is a top-fermented beer, heavily hopped, fruity in flavour and amber in colour.
