Royal Unibrew
Royal Unibrew
Royal Unibrew A/S is Denmark's second largest brewing company, headquartered in the small town of Faxe on the island of Zealand, whose history began in 1989 with the merger of Faxe Bryggeri and Jyske Bryggerier, before the company was renamed Bryggerigruppen A/S in 1992 and finally Royal Unibrew in 2005, giving one of Denmark's best-known and most traditional beer brands its current name. The roots of the company stretch far back into history: Faxe Bryggeri itself was founded in 1901 by Nikoline and Conrad Nielsen as Fakse Dampbryggeri, and after Conrad Nielsen passed away as early as 1914, his widow Nikoline continued to run the brewery with remarkable success and gave it the name Faxe Bryggeri that is still known today.
Today, Royal Unibrew unites under its roof a broad portfolio of significant Danish breweries and brands, including Albani, Faxe, Maribo Bryghus and Ceres, as well as international participations and partnerships that have made the group well known far beyond Danish borders. In 2023, 14.1 million hectoliters of beer, malt and soft drinks were sold, and the group employs around 3,984 people worldwide. Among its flagship products is the Royal brand, which grew out of Ceres Royal Export and has risen with its diverse range of pilsners, IPAs, blondes, brown ales and seasonal specialities such as the X-MAS and the Påskebryg to become one of Denmark's most beloved beer brands.
With partnerships such as the distribution agreement with Heineken for the Danish market, licensed production of PepsiCo beverages including Pepsi, 7UP and Mountain Dew, and strategic acquisitions in Finland – including the renowned Hartwall brewery since 2013 – and in the Baltic states, Royal Unibrew has consistently pursued its growth course and established itself as one of the most significant beverage groups in Northern Europe. The company stands today for a unique combination of local brewing tradition, Nordic quality culture and international brand diversity, enabling it to delight both the demanding Danish home market and markets around the world with characterful and high-quality beers and beverages.
